When people say there are plenty of fish in the sea, it’s hard to get over the loss you’ve already experienced. To some, coping comes easier than others. For these two unfortunately widowed otters, fate has given them a second chance. It may be hard to believe, but there is an actual online dating service for otters. This service is known as Fishing For Love and it’s aimed towards helping otters in need of finding a new life partner.
Otters Falling In Love Again
You may think it might be as simple as swiping left. However, there are some certain conditions that need to be met for each otters standards of course. Harris is an Asian short-clawed otter who had just lost his partner of four years, Apricot. She was 16 years-old when she passed away. Leaving Harris to cope and try to find love once again. Pumpkin had also just lost her lifelong partner and was looking for the same kind of romance as she once knew. Luckily for the both of them, the hands of fate were already weaving their destinies together.
After the otters were officially matched on Fishing For Love, Harris was given an itinerary. He was to be transferred from the Cornish Seal Sanctuary in England to SEA LIFE Scarborough. There’s actually a really good reason why he’s going to her place instead of the other way around. Usually when it comes to otters courtship, it’s typically a better idea for the male to come to the female on her own territory. This way the male will submit much more willingly than if she were on his. Of course, after a long period of grieving for Pumpkin and the SEA LIFE Scarborough staff, Harris was eagerly awaited.
Todd German, a curator for SEA LIFE Scarborough, stated “After an extremely sad period for both Pumpkin and the Animal Care team here at Scarborough we are delighted to report that not only is Pumpkin happy once again, but Harris has settled in extremely well and has already become part of the SEA LIFE Scarborough family.”

The two otters were given their own private room and setting to get to know each other for the first time. It didn’t take long for either of them to get use to one another and quickly found romance once again. Witnessing their honeymoon phase was extremely adorable in everyway possible. The two are being celebrated by both SEA LIFE and Cornish Seal Sanctuary, even if Harris is no longer there. However, they are consistently updated about the well-being of the now inseparable pair of otters.
“We are absolutely delighted that Pumpkin and Harris are getting on so well and he has settled in so quickly,” explains Tamara Cooper, a curator at the Cornish Seal Sanctuary.
With Harris and Pumpkin officially acquainted and completely in love, SEA LIFE is happy to let visitors see them. As of December 2nd, SEA LIFE has safety precautions and measures for guests to safely view the animals. This also includes online-only bookings that people can browse on which dates work best. There’s also enhanced cleaning measures for the facility as well as PPE available for the public and social distancing.
